Typically we do this work upon or adjacent to, complex enterprise or research systems and within regulated industries.
Our engagements' focus is upon solution architectures and approaches that leverage analytics and modern system integration technologies, typically without vendor, stack nor cloud (public, private, hybrid) provider lock in. The "hard yards" in AI and MI or even DL (deep learning) analytics driven initiatives are almost always around the data preparation, model and data management iterations from underlying system integration. Sparse and dense dimensional data-sets and clustered memory and compute intensive workloads involving data virtualization integrations and service bus' integration patterns and ELT/ETL are the norm in much of our work as are the non trivial aspects of governance, data catalogues, and stewardship prior to access.
The ROI limits of devOps, datalakes and descriptive edw/bi analytics investments are real, as are esoteric or abstract AI use cases.
